Too many people these days are shallow in their adoption of deep ideas. They adopt a deep idea but they don’t understand it deeply. This is a problem because it gets misused and other shallow people are introduced to the shallowness of a truly deep idea and reject the depth they never saw. This comes about because they are not playing with ideas long enough.
There is an interesting proverb that goes like this, ‘a proverb in the mouth of a fool is like a thorny branch brandished by a drunk‘.
First comes misunderstanding and then comes misapplication. Both are destructive.
Who has time to be creative anymore? Your boss doesn’t care that you’ve developed a psychological theory that would improve relationships or that you’ve written a book that can change people’s lives.
Society has successfully brutalised creative thinking to such an extent that no one seems to know what being creative really is anymore. People often associate being creative with being able to draw or paint, and that certainly can be creative, but it’s a limiting definition.
